It wasn’t until just before kick off that I had remembered that I had volunteered myself to write the match report for the last home game of the season. I quickly asked Mrs Cheffy if she could provide a pen and the scribbling started.

At the start of the season, to be told that Sarries were in the European Challenge Cup semi-final AND in the mix for the knock-out stage of the Premiership would have delighted most supporters. I think we would have seen it as a very good result for the season.

A mixed bag of results but in the end no more or no less than Deano expected at the start of the season. While Quins limp along aimlessly in GP no-man’s land all eyes will be firmly on Northampton and Worcester, who have managed to drag the last rights out to the final day of the season.

Well you could never say that life is dull when you follow the Saints. Over the next two weeks we play two games that could see us on one hand compete at the very pinnacle of European competition in May whilst the other might condemn us to a season, at least, away from the elite of English rugby.

When one of Ireland's most promising young prop forwards was dealt a hammer blow last August, many wondered whether it was the end of the road for Ronan 'Johnny Bravo' Loughney. The Connacht prop tore a cruciate knee ligament in the dying moments of a pre-season friendly against Narbonne in France.
